This section details the Plant Accessions from your chosen Collection (Paragon EMS Mutants) that are maintained by the GRU.
Collection Details: This collection of spring wheat cultivar Paragon was subjected to chemical mutagenesis with Ethyl Methane Sulphonate (EMS) and the resulting seed grown and sibling mutagenised plants were then fixed through Single Seed Descent to the M5 generation before bulking in the field.
The collection consists of 6417 lines of M6 generation. The initial Paragon seed was subjected to chemical mutagenesis with Ethyl Methane Sulphonate (EMS) for 16 hours (causing a 50% lethality to treated seed) thus inducing multiple base-pair mutations to the viable seed. Two M2 sibling plants were selected for subsequent generations in a Single Seed Descent (SSD) approach. Seed from the M5 were grown in a 2006 field trial where traits were noted and recorded. These phenotypes are part of the record for each accession and a summary trait file is available to download. The resulting collections represent a stable sibling population (Subcollections a and b) with high homozygosity.
